AASTRA 800 - IP PBX

Aastra 800 - Software VoIP Phone System

The Aastra 800 is an innovative call manager and IP-PBX, which is not hardware dependent and therefore does not require proprietary ITC hardware. Instead, this powerful communication server can be installed on any standard Windows™ PC.

The PC running the Aastra 800 IP PBX Software will be connected to the LAN (Local Area Network) and will connect to IP Phones such as the Aastra 6751i, Aastra 6753i, Aastra 6755i, Aastra 6757i, Aastra 6730i and Aastra 6731i, which also connect to the Local Area Network.  This means that the phone system and telephones communicate in a similar way to networked computers, meaning that the system and phones are easy to depoly in an existing networked office, in most cases with no extra cabling as the phones can usually connect in-line between the structured cabling (CAT5e) point and a PC.

Since a standard Windows PC does not provide ISDN interfaces, an external VoIP gateway is required to connect the Aastra 800 to the PSTN / ISDN Telephone Lines an additional VoIP Gateway will be required if you need to make and receive telephone calls using analogue, ISDN or GSM telephone lines.  These Gateways are simply connected as devices on the Local Area Network and connect the phone system to the required telephone lines.

As an alternative to standard analogue (PSTN) or ISDN telephone lines, the Aastra 800 system can connect directly to a SIP Trunk provider who can provide a telephone service, including the provision of telephone numbers, so that calls can be made and received using an IP link.  In some cases, for a few simultaneous phone calls a standard Broadband ADSL circuit can be utilised, but increasingly SIP trunk providers offer high quality Broadband alternatives that will allow larger volumes of high quality calls to be made, in most cases with ISDN line quality.  Telephone call charges and overall rental charges using SIP trunks are similar to those of Analogue or ISDN telephone lines, but SIP Trunks have the advantage of a quicker installation time and significantly lower installation costs.  SIP Trunks also offer the flexibility of a wide choice of numbers, so a single office can have geographic telephone numbers (Eg Manchester 0161, Birmingham 0121, Newcastle 0191) from all parts of the country, or even international numbers delivered to their office phone system over their SIP Trunk service.
