For high bandwidth, dedicated connection between sites, we offer Short Haul Data Services (SHDS). This is a low-cost solution for extending the Local Area Networks (LANs) of UK organisations who operate from two or more sites, up to 25km apart. SHDS operates at the same speeds at the LANs that it links, enabling information to be shared rapidly. It also facilitates the provision of high speed links for disaster recovery standby sites. SHDS is ideally suited to customers who do not want to commit to large scale investment in technology.
In short, SHDS is an extremely reliable and secure service. It provides fast, seamless connections between sites, which increase the ease at which staff can access and exchange information.
LES10, LES100 and LES1000 are BT names for SHDS services and denote the available bandwidths of 10Mbit/s, 100Mbit/s and 1Gbit/second
SHDS Benefits
- Cost effective. SHDS present you with the opportunity to increase efficiency and control operational costs, by linking your sites electronically.
- Seamless. The link enables you to extend each of your offices' local area networks so that they appear as one, allowing you to share applications throughout your company.
- Economical. There are no bandwidth restrictions with SHDS, because, unlike other connectivity services, our solutions are matched to the speed at which your LANs operate and not a maximum throughput.
- Responsive. Your applications will operate in exactly the same way and at exactly the same speed regardless of where you are located; in fact, your users won't even be aware of the link.
- Secure. Short-Haul Data Services provide discrete fibre-based connectivity for secure communications between your sites.
- Reliable. Selected services are continuously monitored. Any fault is automatically reported to the SHDS Network Management Centre, where appropriate action is taken.
- Resilient. Resilience features are available for ATM and Token Ring LANs (Dual fibre or Ring connection option for additional resilience with Token Ring LANs; Dual fibre and Dual NTE with ATM LANs).
SHDS / LES Pricing
- SHDS attract a one-off connection and annual rental charges.
- Prices are based on the aggregate charge for each Local End and the Main Link.
- The Local End connection charge and annual rental are fixed sums.
- Main Link charges are calculated on the radial distance between the local serving exchanges.
- Additional circuit charges apply at one or both ends where an initial circuit exists at the same location.
