The Cellroute 3G is a single SIM Analogue GSM Gateway that provides an analogue interface to the GSM mobile phone network.  This means that you can connect an analogue telephone device such as a telephone to the Cellroute 3G and make calls over the mobile phone network using a SIM card inserted into the Cellroute 3G GSM Gateway.

The Telecom FM Cellroute 3G compliments the Cellroute range which previously comprised of the cellroute AC and Cellroute GPRS Fixed Cellular Terminals.  The Cellroute AC and Cellroute GPRS are dual band GSM Gateways so will only work with mobile phone operators that use the 900Mhz and 1800Mhz network frequency bands.  In the Uk this means that the Cellroute AC and Cellroute GPRS would work with the O2, T-Mobile, Vodafone and Orange networks whoc all operate on the 900/1800Mhz network frequencies, however these units would not work with three mobile which only operates on the 2100Mhz frequency.  The only other exception to this was the Vodafone Sure Signal which is a mini transmitter which could be installed by the end user in their home or business that suffered from a poor signal from Vodafone.  The Vodafone Sure Signal transmitted at 2100Mhz so the cellroute AC and Cellroute GPRS units would not work when attempting to connect to a Vodafone sure signal.

The only difference between the Cellroute AC and the Cellroute GPRS is the GPRS version includes a built-in battery back up whilst the AC version does not.  Both units provided a single analogue connection for analogue devices to make calls over the GSM network.

The Cellroute 3G operates on all three frequencies 900/1800/2100Mhz which means that it will work with all 2G and 3G network frequencies so can be used with O2, T-Mobile, Orange, Vodafone, Vodafone Sure Signal and Three Mobile networks.

As well as connecting to a standard analogue telephone the Cellroute 3G will also connect to the analogue trunk port of a business phone system.  This is because once you have inserted the SIM card and connected the mains power the Cellroute 3G works just like a telephone line so you can either plug in a standard analogue telephone or connect to the analogue line port of a telephone system, just like connecting a new telephone line, but all calls will be made over the mobile phone network.

A GSM Gateway like the Cellroute 3G is used for reducing the cost of calling mobile phones because the mobile phone networks offer call plans that provide free or low cost calls to mobile phones compared to calling a mobile phone from a normal telephone line.  As well as Low Cost Calls a GSM Gateway can be used to provide resilience in the event that a business loses its telephone line service or will use GSM gateways to provide a telephone service in a temporary or remote location such as a construction site office.

The Cellroute 3G works like a normal telephone line but only for voice calls.  This unit does not support fax or modem transmission.  if you require a GSM fax solution then the Telecom FM Cellfax Plus GSM Gateway will provide connectivity for telephone and fax for transmission over the GSM network but is only a 2G device operating on O2, T-Mobile, Vodafone and Orange networks.
