MPLS VPN?
MPLS VPN – Multi Protocol Label Switching - is a technology for speeding up network traffic flow and making it easier to manage. MPLS involves setting up a specific path across a network for a given sequence of data packets; the path being identified by a label put in each packet.
In addition to moving traffic faster overall, an MPLS VPN makes it easy to manage a network for Quality of Service (QoS). For these reasons, the technique is being readily adopted as networks begin to carry more and different mixtures of traffic types.
Many IP VPN’s use MPLS to handle the data which creates an efficient network that competes well with private circuits in terms of cost and flexibility.
What are the benefits of MPLS VPN’s?
Highly Reliable – MPLS VPN’s are highly reliable due to the fully meshed cloud the information is carried over. For example, if one link in the cloud fails traffic is automatically rerouted to find another path. SLA’s are offered on MPLS VPN’s so in the unlikely event a circuit fails it will be fixed in accordance with your SLA.
Cost effective – With previous technologies like Frame Relay, PVC’s were paid for increasing the cost of the connections. With MPLS VPN’s the fully meshed cloud has “any to any” connections, allowing all offices to connect at no extra cost.
Highly Secure – Constantly rerouting your packets to find the quickest path, there is no standard link. Manageable – being able to provide Quality of Service and prioritisation you’ll know that your important data is reaching its destination first - making it easy to predictably manage application performance over your links.
High bandwidth – very high bandwidth is available cost-effectively using MPLS VPN’s. You can have the bandwidth you need and will be able to make increases to your bandwidth easily - making a network for not only today but for the future, optimising your investment.
